Question about Baseball Rules and Regulations?

So if someone is on first, and the batter up has a 3-0 count. The baserunner steals, but it is a ball. The catcher throws not knowing it was a walk, and overthrows the ball. Could the baserunners keep running? I don't understand because it would be a walk.
