Why are there 'that" clarifiers to the following verses? Is it to distinguish it from a counter part?

There used to be a comedian on Saturday Night Live who introduced himself as A. Whitney Brown. Someday, I hope to be "the" Whitney Brown. The little articles mean something important in every case.
