Do you believe in hitting rock bottom? Do Christians and atheists have different "rock bottoms"?

It's been said that a person has to hit rock bottom (where did that come from?) before they cease participating in a destructive behavior. If that is the case, What is "rock bottom"? Will Lindsey Lohan cease her destructive ways, now that she's in prison? Is that her "rock bottom"?
